What the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU Actually Is
The RTX 5060 Laptop GPU launched in May 2025 and is a different chip from the desktop RTX 5060. Knowing its real specification helps you judge whether a given laptop is worth its Canadian asking price:
Blackwell architecture: the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU uses the GB206 chip with 3,328 CUDA cores, 104 tensor cores and 26 ray-tracing units. It is Blackwell, not the older Ampere generation.
8GB of GDDR7: memory runs at 28 Gbps on a 128-bit bus for about 448 GB/s of bandwidth. The 8GB buffer is the chip's main limitation at 1440p with ray tracing and high-resolution textures.
TGP decides the performance you get: NVIDIA rates the part from 45W to 100W, and some vendors add up to 25W of Dynamic Boost for a 125W ceiling. Two laptops with the same RTX 5060 badge can differ by well over 20% in frame rate, so check the wattage before you check the price.
DLSS 4 and multi frame generation: the Blackwell generation adds multi frame generation, which is where most of the headline gains over an RTX 4060 come from rather than from raw raster performance.
Canadian pricing reality: RTX 5060 laptops at Canada Computers currently run from $1,599 to $3,299 CAD. Prices have not fallen below the $1500 mark, so a sub-$1500 gaming laptop in Canada today means an RTX 4060, RTX 4050 or a renewed unit.
Check the panel too: most RTX 5060 laptops ship 16-inch 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 panels at 165Hz, and the 8GB of VRAM is better matched to 1200p than to 1600p in the newest titles.
