Top 7 Insect Supplies in Canada for 2025: Expert-Approved Terrariums, Escape-Proof Enclosures & Feeder Solutions — What Pros Choose and Why

The Exo Terra Faunarium (Large, PT2265) is the roomiest plastic enclosure on this list at 37 x 22 x 25 cm, built for invertebrates and simple naturalistic setups. Its snap-lock lid is ventilated on all sides and carries a hinged access door, so feeding does not mean opening the whole top, and the units stack. At about $46 it costs only a few dollars more than Zilla's micro habitat while giving far more usable floor space, which is what makes it a better base for breeding or multi-level setups than the Nano.

Zilla Jungle Mix Substrate is a versatile, ready-to-use forest-floor style substrate that leads the market on value and structural stability, making it a strong choice for filling larger enclosures and supporting rooted plants and burrowing species. While it doesn’t match the moisture-holding finesse of Zoo Med sphagnum for growing live moss, Zilla’s blend is more economical and provides a durable base layer that pairs well with spot applications of sphagnum for a complete forest-floor setup.

Mysa's Smart Plug is positioned as a market-leading premium option thanks to higher amperage support and accurate scheduling with energy monitoring, useful for powering high-wattage basking or UV lamps in insect habitats without overloading circuits. It commands a higher price than Govee but offers sturdier electrical specs and more reliable power handling than many consumer Wi‑Fi plugs, while lacking the analog simplicity of the iPower heavy duty timer that some hobbyists prefer for very low-cost installs.

The Inkbird IHC-200 is a dedicated humidity controller valued for its affordability and straightforward automation: it reliably switches humidification or dehumidification devices on and off to maintain setpoints. Unlike the integrated misting products here, the IHC-200 is a cost-efficient controller-first solution that pairs with foggers or misters (including the other systems listed) to add precise feedback control without replacing existing hardware, offering strong technical flexibility for DIY or mixed-system deployments.

Zoo Med Repti Calcium without D3 is the market leader for cost-conscious keepers who prefer a pure calcium source to pair with separate D3/UVB strategies; its uncomplicated formulation and consistent particle size make it a dependable choice for dusting feeders. Financially it is the most affordable option on the list and widely distributed, though technically it lacks the added vitamins and trace minerals found in Arcadia EarthPro-A and Repashy SuperVite, so it is best used as a targeted supplement rather than an all-in-one solution.

Rescue (Accel/Virox) is an accelerated hydrogen peroxide-based concentrate designed for rapid, broad-spectrum disinfection with low environmental residue, making it especially useful for high-turnover enclosures that require short downtime between occupants. Its technical advantages include fast contact times and a benign breakdown to water and oxygen, which simplifies regulatory acceptance and reduces surface residue concerns compared with some traditional chemistries. Compared to F10 SC, Rescue typically offers quicker microbial kill times and a cleaner environmental profile at the tradeoff of slightly higher per-liter costs and the need to verify compatibility with certain metals or finishes in specialized enclosure setups.

Lee's Kricket Keeper Large is a purpose-designed ventilated feeder and transport container engineered for crickets and feeder insects, with fine mesh vents and large access doors for easy stocking and cleaning. It’s a cost-effective, high-capacity choice for breeders and pet owners who need reliable ventilation and handling at a lower price than display terrariums, though it sacrifices the naturalistic aesthetics of the Faunarium and Bugarium.
